One of the best-known chromophores is cytochrome c oxidase, found inside the mitochondria, the tiny structures responsible for producing energy within your cells. When it absorbs red light, it helps stimulate the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy your skin cells rely on to repair, regenerate, and produce collagen.

Other wavelengths interact with different chromophores and biological processes. Blue light, for example, targets compounds produced by acne-causing bacteria, while green and yellow light are associated with calming the skin and supporting a more balanced complexion.

This selective absorption is what makes LED light therapy so precise. Rather than simply shining light onto the skin, specific wavelengths are absorbed by specific chromophores, triggering natural biological responses exactly where they're needed.
